This statement was recently said to me: “Oh, she is the one that can’t hear.”
Normally, I just say yes and move on. However, this time it stopped me in my tracks.
Yes, she is the one that “can’t hear,” but she is so much more than that. She is an amazing horseback rider with many ribbons from shows to prove that. She is a great artist; she can take random items and make amazing things. Her favorite thing to craft is items for her toy horses. She is so funny. Once you meet her, she will have you laughing in no time. Her smile can light up the darkest of rooms. She is smart; too smart sometimes. Yes, of my two daughters, she is the one that “can’t hear”. Her hearing difference is part of her. It does not define her. I dare you to lean in; get to know her as a whole person. The fact that she has a hearing difference just makes her that much more amazing. ~
